(New York, NY – May 1, 2007)
Mary Ann Tighe, CEO of the New York Tri-State Region of CB Richard Ellis, a leading global commercial real estate services firm, has been named President of Joan’s Legacy: The Joan Scarangello Foundation to Conquer Lung Cancer. As President, Ms. Tighe will lead the organization in funding innovative research into diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer, including in non-smokers.
Professionally Ms. Tighe has been on the forefront of the ever-changing world of real estate. In her new role as President of Joan’s Legacy, she’ll be on the forefront of cutting edge research. Ms. Tighe will be taking over for Patrick McNeive, who held the position since 2001. “Under Patrick’s able guidance, the organization has grown tremendously in the past six years. Our continued success is vital to the eradication of this devastating disease,” said Ms. Tighe. “My job will be to take Joan’s Legacy to the next level and continue the fight.”
Joan’s Legacy is named for Joan Scarangello, a writer and nonsmoker who died at age 47 after a valiant nine-month fight with lung cancer. Joan’s Legacy is committed to fighting lung cancer by searching for a cure and focusing greater attention on the world’s leading cancer killer. Funding $2.4 Million in direct research grants in only four years, Joan’s Legacy is fast becoming the “venture capital” source for lung cancer research.
Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer in the United States, taking more than 162,000 lives each year. Yet lung cancer receives less research funding than almost any other cancer, making the work of Joan's Legacy even more compelling.
