Joan’s Legacy: The Joan Scarangello Foundation
to Conquer Lung Cancer
(New York, NY - September 27, 2004) Healthcare and business
marketing professional Susan C. Mantel has been named
Executive Director of Joan’s Legacy: The Joan
Scarangello Foundation to Conquer Lung Cancer.
Joan’s Legacy is named
for Joan Scarangello, a writer and nonsmoker who died
at age 47 after a valiant nine-month fight with lung
cancer. Joan’s Legacy is committed to fighting
lung cancer by searching for a cure and focusing greater
attention on the world’s leading cancer killer.
Funding $700,000 in new and cutting-edge research in
less than three years, Joan’s Legacy is fast becoming
the “venture capital” source for lung cancer
research.
As Executive Director, Ms.
Mantel will work with the Board of Directors to execute
the Foundation’s development and growth initiatives.
She will also help Joan’s Legacy collaborate with
like-minded organizations across the country to achieve
the common goal of finding a cure for the disease that
will take the lives of 160,000 Americans this year.
Prior to joining Joan’s
Legacy, Ms. Mantel served as a Senior Marketing Manager
for Pfizer, Inc., where she executed initiatives to
introduce new products and instituted a number of educational
and training programs for physicians as well as Pfizer’s
sales force. Previously, Ms. Mantel served as Worldwide
Health Care Practice Coordinator for The Boston Consulting
Group.
Ms. Mantel has been actively
involved with not-for-profit organizations for many
years. As an independent consultant, board member and
volunteer, she has made important contributions for
organizations including Action Against Hunger, Mustard
Seed Communities, and New York Cares’ Read-to-Me
Program.
Ms. Mantel holds an MBA from
the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University
and a BA from Haverford College. She resides in Manhattan.
