At Joan's Legacy: The Joan
Scarangello Foundation to Conquer Lung Cancer (“Joan's
Legacy”), we understand that privacy is important,
and we are strongly committed to protecting the privacy
of donors and visitors to our website. The following
information is designed to help you better understand
the information we gather from our site and through
our services, how we handle the information once we
gather it, whether we disclose it to anyone, and the
choices you have regarding our use of the information.
Please note that this Privacy Statement applies only
to this site and not to the websites of other organizations
to which we link. This policy may be changed or updated
from time to time. If you have any questions about our
Privacy Policy, you can contact us at:

Joan’s Legacy uses
its best efforts to respect the privacy of its online
visitors. At our site, we do not collect personally
identifiable information from individuals unless they
provide it to us voluntarily and knowingly. This means
we do not require you to register or provide information
to us in order to view our site. Joan’s Legacy
only gathers personally identifiable data, such as names,
addresses, zip/postal codes, e-mail addresses, etc.,
when voluntarily submitted by a visitor. For example,
personally identifiable information may be collected
in order to respond to a stated desire to volunteer
time to Joan’s Legacy or to make a donation online.
This information is used solely by Joan’s Legacy
or other entities who are involved in the operation
of this site for internal purposes. Joan’s Legacy's
lists are never sold, rented, or traded to third parties.
We occasionally hire other companies to provide limited
services on our behalf. We only provide those companies
the information they need to deliver the service and
we prohibit them from using that information for any
other purpose.
As with most other Internet
sites, our Web server automatically recognizes the domain
name of each visitor to the site, but not the e-mail
address (where possible). This IP address tells us which
domain you visited from (e.g. aol.com). We use the information
we record to help diagnose problems with our server,
and to improve the content of our Web page. The information
is not shared with other organizations for commercial
purposes.
If you supply us with your
postal address or e-mail address on-line you may receive
periodic mailings from us with information updates on
our progress and activities.
If you do not want to receive
postal mail or e-mail from us in the future, please
let us know by sending email to us at the above address
or writing to us at the above address and telling us
that you do not want to receive postal mail or e-mail
from us. Some mailings are prepared well in advance,
so please allow up to three months for your request
to be properly reflected on our mailing lists.
We care about the safety
and security of your transaction. When you donate online
to Joan’s Legacy, your donation is processed by
NY Charities.
NY Charities uses Verisign
to provide you with the utmost security for your most
sensitive information. When you make a donation your
personal information is protected with Verisign’s
128-Bit SSL encryption technology. Their Verisign Secure
Site Seal is located on most pages of their website,
and by clicking on it you are able to verify their certificate
and check its validity. Their entire Privacy Statement
can be found at www.nycharities.org/privacy_policy/index.asp
If you choose to donate on
a one-time basis, or regularly to Joan's Legacy, once
you complete a transaction we will use your email address
to send you an electronic receipt for your records.
Contributions may also be
made by calling 212-627-5500 or by
downloading our donation form and faxing it to us at
212-627-7594.
Visitors should be aware
that non-personal information and data may be automatically
collected by Joan’s Legacy’s Website through
the use of "cookies." "Cookies"
are small text files a Website can use to recognize
repeat visitors, facilitate the visitor’s ongoing
access to and use of the site, and allow a site to track
usage behavior and compile aggregate data that will
allow content improvements. Cookies are not programs
that come onto a visitor’s system and damage files.
Generally, cookies work by assigning a unique number
to the visitor that has no meaning outside the assigning
site. If a visitor does not want information collected
through the use of cookies, there is a simple procedure
in most browsers that allows the visitor to deny or
accept the cookie feature. Joan’s Legacy uses
"cookie" technology only to obtain non-personal
information from its online visitors in order to improve
visitors’ online experience and facilitate their
visit within our site.
